Most people picture Morocco's dunes as a two-day drive into the Sahara. They don't have to be. Less than an hour north of Agadir, past Taghazout and Tamraght, a band of wind-blown sand rolls right down to the Atlantic — locals call it the mini desert, and it's the closest thing to a Saharan landscape you'll find on this coast.
We run sandboarding Taghazout deliberately late. Departure is 15:30, returning 19:30, which means you reach the dunes in the last hours of daylight and ride through golden hour rather than the flat glare of midday. The sand is cooler, the light is better, and the sun sets over the water in front of you rather than behind a dune. It's the difference between a decent afternoon and photographs you'll actually keep.
The boarding itself needs no experience. You sit or stand, point downhill, and the sand does the rest. Falls are soft. Children pick it up in minutes and so do most adults. Guides carry the boards back up, so nobody spends the session hauling gear.

None at all. Your guide waxes the board and shows you how to sit or stand on it, and the first run usually settles any nerves. Falling into sand is soft — that's the whole appeal compared with snow.

On the Atlantic coast north of Taghazout, less than an hour from Agadir. It's a band of wind-blown dunes running down to the sea — much closer than the Sahara, and the only place on this coast where you get desert scenery with an ocean view.

Yes — this is the easiest trip we run and children usually take to it faster than adults. Children aged 6 to 12 pay €25. The minimum booking is 2 adults, or 1 adult with 2 children.
What should I wear? ▼
Comfortable walking shoes, sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen — plus a light jacket. The temperature drops noticeably once the sun goes down, and most people underestimate that. Sand gets into everything, so leave anything precious in the vehicle.
